Two Castles Niedzica and Czorsztyn

Rarely do we encounter such a captivating sight as the two castles standing on opposite shores of Lake Czorsztyńskie. These grand fortresses, once guardians of the people, now grace the banks of the Czorsztyn waters with their majestic presence. Despite their separation by the lake, these castles share remarkable similarities, including captivating tales, legends, and the opportunity for enchanting boat cruises between them.

  • Czorsztyn Castle stands as the remains of a defensive stronghold, dating back to the latter half of the 13th century. Constructed using locally sourced stone, this mountain fortress commands a proud position overlooking the waters of the lake it helped form. Certain sections of the castle have been restored and are accessible to the public, hosting a permanent exhibition. From the upper castle terraces, visitors can enjoy a captivating panorama encompassing the Czorsztyńskie Reservoir, the Pieniny Spiskie range, and the Tatra Mountains. The Baranowski Tower offers a panoramic view of Podhale, the Gorce Mountains, and a glimpse of the Czorsztyńskie Pieniny.

  • Built between 1320 and 1330, Niedzica Castle served as a guardian of the Polish-Hungarian trade treaty. Today, it stands almost fully intact, harboring intriguing secrets and legends of Inca treasures. The castle's museum exhibition showcases the history of the region and offers access to 16th-century interiors, chambers, courtyard, dungeons, and even a torture chamber for public exploration.
